Summer Shadows in Aspen...If you missed it, catch it next year...
Summer Shadows in Aspen It’s been a busy summer in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. Record numbers of visitors came and enjoyed our community, The Labor Day JAS Aspen Music event was as fabulous as ever with music for all ages and genre’s -- and to highlight a sold out Stevie Wonder on the final day was very special. The kids are back in school and football, soccer, cross country and fall lacrosse programs are in full swing. Summer Hockey and Softball leagues, Polo matches, The Motherload Volleyball tournament and Ruggerfest (The sacred weekend for Rugby Players) have come and gone to much enjoyment along with spirited competition.
Snowmass certainly had a busy September with not only playing host to JAS Aspen but also hosting the Tough Mudder, The Snowmass Wine Festival and one of the area’s most special events...the Snowmass Balloon Festival…whew, ready to come up for air yet? And while we all love and embrace snow the one day we didn’t want to see any was on the day of the Golden Leaf Half Marathon. And yes, it did snow and unfortunately for safety and environmental reasons the “sold out” race had to be cancelled. Some ran anyway but the folks at Ute Mountaineer made the right call and still hosted an amazing feast from Marble's ”Slow Groovin' BBQ” and provided what is consistently the best raffle of the year (well at least equal to America’s Uphill).
Aspen Cycling Club wrapped up its season with it final banquet at the LimeLight. A great season with many competitive races (mountain bike or road race every Wednesday). Great rides, interesting stories and good friendships and great to have Tejay Van Garderen ride a time trial with the club just after returning back from a successful Tour de France.
Enjoy the trails!
